Hello, Starting Ritual and Warm Up

Vocabulary: banana, apple, grapes, watermelon, ice cream, egg, fish, bread, tomato, cheese

Grammar: Asking a question and answering with yes or 'no.'

Sentence: Are you hungry? Yes I am.

Objective 1: Students will be able to identify food items.

Objective 2: Students will be more comfortable with answering the question "Are you hungry?"

Story Time!

  • As you read, see how many students can name a piece of food for you. As you go along, if they didn't know before, they can say on the next pages - this is a real confidence booster!

  • With the flash cards visible, ask students, "Are you hungry?" and have them respond with the particular food they want to eat.

  • Use TPR with this song: lift your shoulders with your hands flat out for the question.  Nod and rub your tummy for "Yes, I am." Then make a yummy face for "yum, yum..."
