Objectives: To enable students to talk about themselves using modal verbs+ infinitive. To enable students to talk about others using modal verbs+ infinitives. To encourage students to talk about activities using present participles. To encourage students to form simple utterances on observed actions.

Progressive learning focus: Modal verbs

Target Grammar: Can+ infinitive, Can+not+infinitive, Verb+ing,, Me too

Target Sentences: He is ___+ing. He can ____.He can’t ____.//I am____ +ing  He is____ +ing They are____ +ing//You like _____. Me too//I can ____ in the ______

Introduce Vocabulary: Jump, run, swim, hop, dance, sing, draw, ride a bike, catch, drink, drive, eat, find, fly, get, give, go, learn, read, ride, sit, sleep, throw, write, listen, over, under, through.

Warm up: Hello Song, Date & Weather 5 mins

Knowledge Activation: Review vocabulary from the previous lesson. 5 mins


Introduce Vocabulary: 15 mins

Flash Cards and Flash Card Games. Utilise extensive TPR and ensure whole class is participating.

Introduce Grammar:  15 mins

Guide students through the image with simple eliciting questions. Encourage responses from the students using vocabulary and target sentence structure. Stress positive and negative answers in the correct context. For more developed students encourage them to ask each other questions. Encourage the use of different pronouns.

Reading PT 1. 15 mins

Reading PT 1:

  • Use the images to elicit recognition of the target vocabulary.

  • Use scenes and images to further demonstrate grammar structures.

  • Use Wh- questions to promote reading comprehension.


Cool down: Goodbye song, wrap-up and review activities.  5 mins
