Hello Song - Click here for hello song ideas
Calendar, Rules, Colours, etc.
Spend some time asking BASIC QUESTIONS: How are you? How old are you? What's your name?
5 min Review last week
Take out the flashcards from the last session and see who remembers the words or phrases. If you gave homework - go through the work as a class.
10 min Introduction of topic
Introduce the feelings theme with the flash cards one by one, displaying each one on the wall as it is introduced. Encourage the group to repeat the words several times as they are introduced. Play games with FCs to reinforce new vocabulary. Examples here.(link to Games)
Reinforce understanding by playing a "Who is?" game. Teacher asks the group "Who is sleepy?" those who raise their hands are asked to repeat after the teacher "I am sleepy" etc. Use the flashcards to help if necessary.
After a few goes, ask for a volunteer. Teacher whispers the feeling / adjective to the volunteer who then has to demonstrate it to the others without saying the word. The other have to guess the correct feeling/adjective in English.
15 min Book : Book link Before reading, revise the vocab using flashcards. Read through the book: Aliens on Planet Zorg -by ESL. Show the children the cover and ask them what season it is in the book - use the flashcards to help if necessary. "IWhat is this? Is it an alienr? Yes or No?"
Activity
10 min Song/ Extra Game
Adapt the song to your target language (eg If you're hungry and you know it, rub your tummy) Pre- teach the words without music, use the flashcards for help. Sing the song 2 or 3 times. By the third time, the students will have picked up many of the words, the tune and the actions.
10 min Individual Activity
Each handout is age-specific, please ensure you use the handout that corresponds to your group. You may decide to use a handout aimed at a different age if your group is of a high level.
Explain the activity and do part or all of it as a group/class. Play "Listen and Point" - read the names of the FCs out loud and ask the children to point at the item that is relevant. Walk around room to see how the children are doing, help those that are struggling. Spend time with each child. Ask a question about the lesson or what they might be colouring. Encourage each child to either repeat vocabulary and sentences or to produce them independently, depending on their level.
